DDE-0016-00 Hakai Labs 3mm Bi-color 2 Lead Color Vision Deficiency LED
DDE-0016-00 Hakai Labs 3mm Bi-color 2 Lead Color Vision Deficiency LED
The Hakai Labs / Danesi Designs Color Vision Deficiency (CVD LED) is a high quality bi-polar Red/Green LED that was custom designed and manufactured for the inclusivity of color deficient individuals without any sacrifice to those without a color deficiency. A small color shift was made to the wavelength of the green side of the LED to push it closer to blue in the visible spectrum. This slight shift is enough to enable color vision deficient individuals to fully distinguish between the red and the custom green/teal colors emitted by this LED. All Haikai modules use this LED when +/- voltage indication is needed.
Engineering Notes:
Due to the nature of how LED chips function, the teal/green chip in this LED will be brighter than the red due to its forward voltage and MCD output. Although they are not too far off, if using this in a new design, you can experiment with different resistor values to get the exact brightness you want for each chip within the LED. Below is an image of a quick example on how you would individually control the brightness of these LEDs.
You can also get away with removing D2 as the lower value resistor will complete the circuit when voltage passes through D1.
